SKID PATCH

Where the tyre wears.

How many places your rear tyre touches down when you skid. Fewer patches means you wear the same spot flat.

48 / 16 reduces to 3 : 1
1
One foot forward
2
Ambidextrous

The reduced denominator 1 is odd, so skidding with either foot forward doubles your patches.

Only 1 contact patch. You will wear the same spot flat.

Change the cog (chainring stays at 48T)

How it is calculated

Reduce chainring/cog by their greatest common divisor; the denominator is the number of contact patches. Skidding with either foot forward doubles that only when the denominator is odd.

Tyre presets are typical values. Measure your own rollout for an exact figure.
